The Midday Sun

Some Monday reax from the weekend's events:

- They're nervously fingering the panic button in south Florida in the wake of Miami's 13-10 overtime loss to the Redskins. Dan LeBatard apparently wasn't impressed with the first game of the Cameron-era Dolphins. And Greg Cote noted that new QB Trent Green Green "was one fortunate drop from morphing into Jay Fiedler right before our eyes." Ouch.

- In Jacksonville, they're licking their wounds after Sunday's home loss to Tennessee, which was "the kind of showing that probably made most Jaguars fans wish the game had been blacked out on local television after all."

- They're officially grasping at straws in San Diego, and it's only Week One. From Tim Sullivan, we get this gem:

"(I)n keeping their heads and outgrinding their opponents, the Chargers showed some of the substance that was missing last January against Bill Belichick & Associates."

- Jets fans got a stern talking to from Steve Politi of the New Jersey Star-Ledger:

"They should never have the right to chant the letters "J-E-T-S" again, these morons disguised as Jets fans who cheered with delight yesterday when an injured Chad Pennington hopped and crawled off the field."

- Despite considerable evidence to the contrary, Jason Whitlock opines that the Chiefs weren't as bad as he thought they'd be in their 20-3 loss to the Texans.

- From the Detroit Free-Press: "Lions win beauty contest among lepers"

- I know this will come as a shock, but Mitch Albom is driving the apology train for Lloyd Carr. However, Drew Sharp is having none of it, calling on Carr to offer to resign.

I find that note about Trent Green becoming Jay Fielder to be quite inaccurate, as my friend who was president of the Hillel Center back at school said it was actually quite difficult to become Jewish. So I definitely don't think it would be as easy as Mr. Cote makes it sound... trust me, I tried to do it for the food and, lo and behold, no dice!
